If anyone is missing a crab trap or traps check along the south jetty near the harbor entrance. Some thieves left my friends trap about 20 yards from the jetty and thankfully I saw it as I was passing by.  The trap was originally 1 - 1.5 miles away!

There was another red and white buoy right next to it which could possibly be another victim. These mother f%%kers are getting bold. I saw two boats cruising along the jetty/near shore "just looking".

So not cool.  I hate thieves!   :smt013

This makes me glad that I don't leave pots out overnight.

while there is a probability that your pot was raided; you pot may have also walked as a result of the swell.

If your pot was not properly weighted down, a strong swell could have easily taken your pot for a stroll.  All you have to do is look when the surfers always wait for the wave, right along the rockwall...

just saying...maybe.....

LOL, the pot "walked" against the predominant swell 1.5 miles? :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Glen,

We have our traps weighted down pretty well. I had two other traps sitting out with my friends trap that were in almost the same spot I had left them. No beer cans this time but I did have a couple small rock crabs and a potato LOL. We had our traps set towards shore and the trap ended up at the entrance to the harbor next to the jetty.

thats odd... most crab thieves really wouldnt take the risk of getting caught bringing in a stolen trap... most just are there to steal the bounty. The would pick up the trap and drift down current while taken out the crabs, then drop the pot; which ends up down current....

Where was the pot originally dropped? if it were in or close to the boating lane, maybe someone moved it so it would be out of the way, but still easy for kayakers to find...

He had a spotter at the boat ramp and warned him FNG was at the launch and he dumped the stollen gear on the way in.

I have talked to several other crabbers recently who zip tie their traps.  And the zip ties were cut.  Now I have seen even weighted traps moved by current and waves but the cut zip ties is a dead give away it was a thief screwing with them.

The traps were set far away from the boating lanes almost next to the yellow buoy. My buddy and I have left crab traps out for weeks/months and they never really move much.

I'm not sure what happened but I'm guessing they went through my traps first and after they picked up my friends trap they saw a kayaker or boater coming so they panicked and jetted away?
