Anybody have any recent intel on Black Butte Lake?  How are the water conditions?  Low and muddy?  I'm looking to target cats or crappie and I'm thinking about making a trip across the valley to give it a try weather permitting this weekend.

Black Butte is at 21% of capacity now (with decent inflows in progress). Sounds bad, but actually the current level is 103% of average storage for this time of year and the lake now holds nearly twice the water it did last year on this date.

Here's a link: Stony Creek/Black Butte Res.

Good luck fishing! Should be some color in the water at least near the creek inflow bays/arms.

I've been thinking about running down and checking it out also, but haven't heard any news.  I reckon those fish haven't had much pressure in the past year.  :smt001

What's the main quarry in Black Butte these days?  I recall hearing it was a good crappie lake.  Is that still true?  I remember stopping there once as a little kid.  We caught a few little largemouth, but no crappie.

I was down there about three weeks ago gathering some red jasper, pig scouting and doing a little upland gaming. Water level looked good. Definitely not full,  but far better than it was. Crappie fishing can be outstanding or frustrating.  I hear that catfishing is great right now though. I don't have details on exactly where on the lake,  but my buddys' neighbor is regularly running from Anderson to Black Butte just for catfish and is having success.
