Hey now.
So, I'm going to be up in the Weed area next week, all week. Plan on getting out every morning.  Woohoo! Mostly going for trout, but wouldn't mind some bass.
Just wondering if anyone's got the skinny on where the best action is.

Thank yee, kindly.

Oak bottom at Whiskeytown lake has been good for me for years.  Paddle toward the pump house but not all the way.  There is a barren patch of red / brown dirt next to a cove.  Cast your rig anywhere on that cove.

Hey Russel,

Did you ever get one of those ARW halibut? I called a campground on Lake Siskyou 3 or 4 weeks ago, water was pretty low, their launch was closed, not sure any other place to launch there.

If you aren't fishing from kayak, you should look at areas on Upper Sac river through Dunsmuir, bring your fly rod.

Some of the guys might have info on Lake Shasta, closer to Weed then Whiskeytown.

If you happen to be down in the Redding area let me know, will take you on the river for some trout and SMB.

Cool, thanks for the intel, hightide. I'll check it out.

Hey Bryan, I did manage to catch one Hali that was 1 inch too short.  :smt010.
I see you've been killing it on the sac, nice work.
I've fished siskiyou a few times in the past, usually launch from the north shore, never have the patience to drive all the way around to the ramp. Lol.  Sucks to hear its so low, but maybe it'll be easier to find the fish. Thanks for the heads up tho.

If you're in Weed why not hit up Lake Shastina? It's right there and loaded with bass and cats. If you're Hell bent on trout, go the siskiyou route, but be prepared for meager pickins. For a really cool trout experience, buzz out hwy 89 just south of Mt. Shasta over to McCloud and drop down into McCloud Reservoir. Gobs of browns and rainbows.

Hit up the Bass Lake in the Shasta Valley Refuge outside of Montague, only open Wed and weekends. Bass lake has Eagle lake strain trout and some nice bass. Bass on the edges of the entire lake, trout is best near the little island near the boat ramp on the deep side of it, west side I guess. Have caught some nice 20"+ trout on the fly rod within a pitching wedge of the boat ramp. Only electric motors so don't have to worry about being run over by a bass boat.

Trout lake in the refuge ironically has mostly small bass.

Lake McCloud should be fishing if you want troll up a few on the yak.

If it was me, I would go find some steelhead on the klamath, she is fishing well according to my peeps...maybe head up again in a few weeks.

Hell yes, thanks for the excellent info. Love it!
Bass lake, I totally forgot about bass lake. I actually am staying up in montegue, last time I tried to fish there, it was only open to bird shooting, lol.  Definatley check it out.
Kinda intrigued with mcCloud as well, if for no other reason then to get out in the middle of it and yell out,"there can be only one"!    :smt003

Thanks again for the sweet intel.

If you're going to be in Montague, you have the Copko and Iron Gate options as well.

try Mcloud.. the hatch might be on. Bass and trout lake may not work because of waterfowl season. Mcloud is always a good bet this time of year.

McCloud it is, with maybe a couple of runs up to iron gate.
Looks like Bass and Trout lakes are closed for the season.

I was unaware of iron gate res, thanks for the heads up about it. A little perch action might be fun.

Thanks guys.

Sorry about that, I thought those lakes were open year round, never fish it this time year as I'm pretty much chasing steel and stripers now. Troll the narrows up to the inlet on IG, might find one of the giant trout that move towards the inlet this time of year. Otherwise, yeah, perch taste awesome!

McCloud should be a no brainer now before it gets too cold, good luck.

I just realized, I forgot all about following up on this thread. Hot super busy after I got home, (side job, so's I could get my revo :smt001)
I ended up just fishing mccloud res. What a beautiful lake.
Super low, but gorgeous.

The first two trips out, I think I was the only person on the lake. My first thought out there was, how quiet and absolutely still it was. That, and the abundance of wild life. Saw a family of otters playing, deer sipping on the waters edge, and a massive amount of fish jumping everywhere.
Managed to catch a few every trip out.

So thankful to you guys for turning me on to this spot.

I heard that too, but I didn't get into any. I don't think I was trolling deep enough. Also, didn't have any ford fenders, which is what the local guys use, or so I heard.  :smt004
