So, uh, I have two questions:

1.  What exactly is 'poke poling?'
2.  How far out do you usually have to paddle to get to water deep enough for sand dabs?

1.  What exactly is 'poke poling?'
2.  How far out do you usually have to paddle to get to water deep enough for sand dabs?

1). Watch the video ... It involves a stripper pole & some of Moss Landings finest.  Lo . Actually, you use a pole of your length with about a foot if line, a hook and poke it in the rocks for fish.

2).  Sand Dabs can be found as shallow as 20/30' and down deeper.  Deepest ive fished for them was like 120/150' but I'm sure they are found deeper than that.  I start at like 40' & chase them from there.
