So I send back my Stradic 1000 and 2000 along with my really old Corsair that was totaled by the thresher I caught in the Bay in 2006 for service and repair.

 Thresher totaled the level wind!!!

Shimano says we can't service these reals…  wow,  if they can't, who can?

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

They haven't serviced the Corsair in a long time.  I know for awhile if you had the original Silver Corsairs they were upgrading to the Corvalus for free...if you had a newer Corsair (gold) they were upgrading for like $25.  Sounds like they stopped this practice.

WOW, this has me rethinking the idea of buying Shimano products anymore! I guess they dont care about their loyal customers! I would write them a Letter if I was you and maybe mention this forum and how many people may see this and may not use their proucts ever again! :smt012

I have a few Shimanos that are sorta falling apart also.  Inexpensive reels though, and they are good while they last.

Only have one bait caster Calcutta, and I don't use it  much but it's nice.  Almost all my FW spin reels are shimano.  Guess what?  the more expensive they are, the longer they last!

You could always service the Stradic reels yourself. Shimano spinning reels are pretty easy to break down for cleaning. I overhaul all my reels during the Winter down time while waiting for GS. :smt003

Here is a tutorial for the 2006 Stradic FH:

The biggest problem you may face is finding replacements for worn out parts. You will need to download the schematic for your reel to find the part number, and pray that Shimano still carries it when you call them. Good luck!

I repaired two shimano spin reels right after kodiak this year.  Neither of the worked.  Pulled apart, cleaned, and tightened everything.  Lucky no broken parts.

Get your boys to fix them!!

Do it yourself. Follow the Alan Tani tutorial. It is super easy. You can find Shimano parts for anything with a quick search. I just made an old Stradic like new just with cleaning and lube. The anti reverse often fails on that model. All you have to do to fix it is clean the roller sleeve bearing.  No lubrication. I'm pretty sure you can fix most any reel you have just by following one of the tutorials on AlanTani.com. You can find specs on most manufacturer sites also. I learned how to service and repair all my reels. I'm even upgrading drags and bearings on my best reels. Using the new fancy lubricants too. Reel repair is addicting and fun. It will make you love your Shimano reels and they will last forever and work better than when they were new. You'll also have more faith in your gear when you hook that sea monster.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

Same thing just happened to me (Stradic 1000)...
Sucky thing is Shimano sent me the list of their service stores, but I already took it to Fisherman's which is in the list and they couldn't fix it...
Serving myself is out of question for me (I have skeletons of reels that I tried worked on in my garage)...
Out of luck...?

I managed a tackle shop back in Florida for a few years.  We sold a LOT of Stradics to the local guides and these things took a beating.  The following year, they changed the model a bit and they didn't have that tell-tale white look.  Also found they broke down in Saltwater quite a bit faster.  Started reading thru the "disclaimer" and the newer models read "not for saltwater use". :smt009  Guess they started using Magnesium in them and it was no bueno for salt.  Converted a lot of the guides to a lesser Shimano model that lasted longer and was 1/2 the price.

I've hear REALLY good things about Alan.  I have a few Charter Specials that need to head his way for cleaning, tune-up & new drag washers.
