Went out with James and Phil this Monday fishing from Howe  to Richardson. What's that smell?  SKUNK OLA !!! But what a ride. Fish were jumping every where just not on my line. I tried every color #4 flat fish and only got one bump( which I Missed ) about mid way down river.
Guys there were so many fish in the water at times it was like a National Geographics documentary. Some one said that they thought that the fish were just traveling through to get to deeper or cooler water. I think that maybe true. We did see a large fish taken near the pump approx. 25# but the guy took it on the snag and released it. Someone else took a 10# near there also.
If you get the oppurtunity to do this drift I would highly recoomend it for the ride alone. Got some Beaver upset at us at one point they keep slapping their tails at us. I did see alot of fish Also not many people on the river so Monday is a good day for me.
I told Phil and James that I would want to try again soon.

Frank,
Good to hear you and Phil are back on the water again.  Glad that you guys are safe.  I fished the American river last year.  It was the most frustrating type of fishing I've ever experienced because the fish were jumping all around us, except they just wouldn't bite my hook.  At least this time there's no helicoptor, rescue boat and jaws to worry about  :smt001.  Let's do Bean Hollow again soon before the season is over.

Eugene.

Waiting for the new Yak to get here which should be the 26th. However, switching to a single no more double for me.

Wow what a difference a couple days makes!  When I fished the lower american with Tote on Saturday we only saw one fish all day and no one seemed to be catching anything or marking any fish on the FF.  Glad to ear you guys at least had some excitement.

Sounds like you had a good time. Glad to hear you saw some fish in the river.
A weekday would be a nice time to hit the river. Little or no "Combat Fishing" from the banks.

I'm looking forward to better days. Thanks for the report Frank.

Ditto what Travis said. We saw ZERO fish. Maybe they are IN right now and hopefully there will be more on the way.
I wonder how far up the American you can still fish> Gonna have to pull out the regs and check it out. I wouldn't mind launching from farther up.

I am glad you guys had a fun trip.  Too bad you didn't hookup.  Either way, I think it is still a relaxing trip.  I know the frustration of seeing large fish roll and not being able to land one.

I think we need some cooler weather.  These 80+ deg. afternoon temps are keeping the water too warm and I agree that the fish are quickly moving through to cooler water.

I am thinking it might be time to focus on stripper until the temps drop, or else bank some WAF until the Salmon start showing more.
