Was out on the American River by the Old Fair Oaks bridge this weekend and the salmon are jumping out of the water.  I should be out there Friday & Saturday.  This section of the river will be open till Halloween.  Hopefully it won't be as windy as it was Sunday.

Good luck!

Anybody have a good suggestion for shore fishing spots on the American ? I really want to put my GF on a salmon and I've heard that the American can be a solid bet at times during the fall. Not soliciting anyone's secret spot or anything, I'm just not terribly familiar with the river and would be taking a stab in the dark otherwise.

Safe easy launch at Howe.
Just lock your stuff up. Thieves

Dont go to "The Wall" at Nimbus. Lots of good shore spots, especially if you walk a bit. Go on google earth and get a layout, pick swift narrow spots that open up into a hole. Not much pressure at Watt, but less fish than in the combat zone near hatchery and Sailors Bar. About a mile down from the hatchery are some real good runs. Enjoy.

Thanks, Rich. Much appreciated. I'll do the usual Google Earth recon and figure out a plan from there based on your tips. I don't mind walking at all and would definitely like to steer clear of the combat fishing zones. If the stars align, maybe aim for a trip next week. Chucking the usual assortment of spinners and spoons the best way to attack it ?

From shore I would toss beads. One of my favorite spots is under the Sunrise bridge on the west side. Nice chute right there, and never any people. If the fish are thick n moving, you will get fish. Have fun!

Looks like there are some good chutes and riffles right above deeper holes if you start at Sunrise and work your way downstream. May give it a shot if I can find a window to make the drive over. Thanks again for the intel, Rich, and sorry for the thread jack, tpolito.

I tube and snorkel that area a lot in the summer heat with the family. Usually launch at Sunrise and float to River Bend. Have seen a lot of deep holes. There is a lot of area on the bank that can be reached pretty easy just off areas along the bike trail.
