I've heard rumour of bioluminescent algae in Tomales Bay during the fall. Has anyone seen this or know when the best time of year may be to experience this while paddling? I've been wanting to see this myself, but want a time when the odds are best. Driving from Sacramento, so looking to plan ahead a little.

Clavey has bio tours just go to their site and go at the same time

Yes, I have seen it once at Tomales Bay.  Lost my head lamp the same night!

I've seen bioluminescent plankton before during night dives.
You turn off your light so that its pitch black.
Then wave your arms around and let the light show begin.
It's pretty cool to see underwater.  :smt007

Got the same experience during a night dive at the break water in Monterrey for the PADI certification.

It is very striking and memorable, it'll be worth it. If you go with Clavey's lemme know I'll go too.
