Question: Why will I get a citation if I have a nocked arrow in or on a vehicle?

Answer: The regulations say no person may nock or fit the notch in the end of an arrow to a bowstring or crossbow string in a ready-to-fire position while in or on any vehicle (California Code of Regulations, Title 14 section 353 (i)). It is as much the DFG’s role to promote hunter safety as it is to promote hunter ethics.  Hunters have been seriously wounded by nocked arrows in vehicles. It is not very sporting to shoot an animal from a vehicle, nor does it make for the most accurate placement of the arrow.

Having a knocked arrow in a truck is stupid! You cannot maneuver the bow/arrow around inside the cab, and with razors on the end slashing everything inside the truck, not likely to happen. I just do not see how having an arrow on your bowstring will do anything but slow you down and cause a major pain in the ass trying to get out and get a shot off. Not to mention an arrow bouncing around, touching the string or cables, and the damn thing blowing up in the cab. All around not the brightest plan to put into place. Keep them in the quiver until it is time to shoot. I don't even like walking around with one on the string, too damn easy to trip and fall on the broadhead. Safety first.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.
