Ok I have a kayak-Paddle-Pfd and I can come up with rods and tackle. What I would like to know is what does everyone where head to toe to Ocean fish? I would like to be ready to try Ocean fishing  in July. I just want to be safe and comfortable for my first trip. Of coarse I will modify as time goes on. Just need a good starting point.
Thanks for any help.

There is a wide range of things you could bring out on the ocean with you...
Here's a recent post on the subject..
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/bb/index.php?topic=3625.0

Joel (a.k.a. the Mooch) is a gear head and he takes just about every worldly possesion out with him.  I'm more of a minimalist and most of my ocean trips are for rockfish and lingcod which means fishing pretty close to shore and often close to my launch/landing spot, however I still take a considerable amount of gear.

Anyway, here's what I bring...
    Kayak
    Paddle

On the deck of my kayak I carry..
Seral pieces of small diameter rope to use as paddle and rod leashes
    Fishing Rods
    Small tacklebox worth of tackle
Stringer, Game Clip and/or 5 gal bucket to put the fish in
    Gaff
    18"+ Diameter Net (it's actually a regulation)
measureing device (usually I mark my gaff with the important lengths)
    Sun screen
    Water
Small Dry Bag with Cell phone, snacks and wallet

In my main hatch I carry..
    Extra 2 piece paddle
Large Dry bag with warm clothes
I often stow my rods in my main hatch during launches and landings

And this is what I wear..
    Swimsuit
    3 mm wetsuit
    3 mm booties
hat (either knit cap for warmth or wide brim for sun protection)
    sunscreen
    sun glasses
paddle jacket or old wind breaker
    PFD

Attached to the PFD are...
   a whistle
   a compass
   a pocket knife
   pair of pliers
   fishing license

Things I don't currently take out, but should get and bring..
    VHF radio
    GPS
    Drift Chute
    signal flares

Oh and most important....
I always bring at least one buddy to go out with me and we try to always stick near each other.
I always file a float plan with my wife... she knows where I'll be fishing, who I'm with and when we promised to be back.  If I don't report back on time she has promised to send the coast guard after me.  So I always make it a point to tack on a couple bonus hours just in case.

Ok I think most of you wear farmer john wet suits? They are sleevless right? What do you wear for a shirt under it or do you? Wet suits are new to me.
Thanks

Under wet suit: speedo on bottom and on top, a Mysteriosa light fleece rashguard (tight fitting shirt thing surfers wear to prevent rash from rubber), and if it's especially cold, a Polartech fleece sweatshirt, topped off with splash jacket (Thin, baggy, waterproof).  Most often, I'm in just the rash guard- fleece is great - it can get wet and stay warm, it's black and soaks  up the sun.
Not vital to have, but I laminate 8 1/2 x 11 copies of fishing chart of some areas of the coast in clear shelf paper - it helps to locate some of the reefs, and for Moss, I've marked the 49's 50's , etc. lines of lat and lon in case I hear a radio report of fish and can't remember where that is. Can put two areas back to back, so just one rolled up chart to put in the pouch of my seat back.
I'm blind without my glasses, so I've got a solid fabric-covered case with clip clasp for the clear/sunglasses clipped and tied onto my life jacket, and my glasses strap (not a Croakie, the kind with rubber eyes on the end) has a thin bungie loop to go around my neck in case they get washed off in a wipe out.  I used to windsurf, and I never lost them in some nasty wipeouts.  If you wear glasses, make sure they're washed clean with soap before going out in fog, it'll keep them from getting fogged up.  Some people use liquid furniture polish after cleaning them to fog proof them -smear it on, polish off with cloth.
Watch the wind and remember how long it takes to get back to shelter.

I wear the orange shirt in my pic
it is a fishing shirt from cabelas it is techical fiber so it dries quickly and prevents sun burn
and I chose the bright orange so boats can hopfully see me.
my wife wears a one piece hyper streatch wet suit from henderson it is very comfortable for her to paddle in and is great protection if she goes overboard.

Under wet suit wear is really a personal preference. I use something similar to what Travis wears. I do recommend wearing something long sleave on warm days. Last year Chuck and I went out of LM on a warm sunny day.  I forgot my sun block and my arms were exposed from the top of the elbow down.  Needless to say I still have tan lines from the burn.  I now wear Under Armor long sleave shirts.  They cover your arms from the sun and when a slight breeze hits your arms they cool you down. Good stuff.
