We'll actually I walked down to the a harbor docks and bought a couple 20 lb Albacores today.  I got tired of waiting for them to come close enough to go get them.  The water is warm enough but they are just not here.

I am almost done processing them into pint jars.

Whole fish is $2.50 a pound
60 percent of the fish was canned and I got 24 jars out of two fish.  Took about 7 hours to clean, process, pack jars and pressure can them.  That adds up to about $4 a jar and close to a pound.

Sounds like a lot but it is now my favorite fish.  How much per pound is it in the store. I guess I could have used smaller jars to make it go farther but would have to open multiple jars if more than one was eating.

Anybody feel the need to can some tuna.  I sure feel for those than process boat loads at once.  2 is my limit in one day.  My body sure hurts now.

I know.  I have wanted to do it also.  I almost shot a spear into its head and said I found him yards from shore, but some would not think that's funny and would call in sick to work and be up here tomorrow.  So a title tease seemed more appropriate.

+1  canning all the alberts is crazy tiring.  well worth it tho, they last for years!!  still have a few from a couple seasons ago.

don't worry DG, everything is delayed 1-2 months this year.  October will be the month they show up in full force and then you'll have ALOT more canning to do

I told my wife that and June was the month because of El Niño and that came and went so she made me go buy some.  Still $100 for 2 fish is only reasonable if you consider guys have spent more on gas and came back with zero.  Now that I have a stash of salmon, tuna and ling I feel better.

I totally get it.  It's crazy good. I had a box of Costco tuna I just couldn't get it down any more.

Mother ship would be cool.  Kayaks just take up a lot of room which would limit how many could go. And it's a fast troll for those big bug eyed fish.

I'm still ready to roll if and when they show up.  My stash is looking pretty grim.  Good news is that's boat got 2 out of Bragg the other day.  Hope we get a shot at em.
I pass by my tuna rods and caress them every once in a while so they know I still love them.

I need to get another halibut to trade for Albacore with my neighbor.  I still have several cases of jars, but I still want to wack a few albies before the year is over.

Pretty certain we saw tuna jump out of the water 4-5 miles of Pt Cabrillo on Monday. We threw some plugs out but no luck. My friend claims he saw one jump over the weekend a couple of miles off Albion after being out 35 miles.
