Thanks to all the great ideas I found here and the other kayak fishing forums, I finally put my Prowler under the knife, er, rotozip. One of my goals was to keep a fairly low profile for launches/landings, so no rod holders sticking up to whack rocks and such. I also wanted everything to be stowed or tied down for launches too.

I bought a Matrix 67 with GPS online, thinking it would have an internal GPS antennae. Wrong. Not only does it come with an external receiver, but it's got like 2 miles of wire attached to it as well. Cabelas 12v 7ah battery in an NRS waterproof box, West Marine wireseal.

The wire from the gps receiver (the white roung thingee) just goes thru a hole in the hull, and I gooped the beejeezus out of it.

The other wires go thru hull with a West Marine Cable-Clam. (pricey but effective)


I made a top for my milk crate by cutting the bottom off another, slightly smaller one. Hinged with zip-ties, latched with velcro wire wraps. When it's closed I can still put things in the rod holders.

Nice work.  I especially like the cover on the crate and the reinforcements for your mounts.  

yeah, thats a pretty sweet setup. I've been thinking about doing exactly that to my milk crate, it's cool to see it working. I guess its time to bust out the sawsall & get a lid on it.

hello all what i did with my crate was cut 3 in off the bottom of a another crate you know how they sit on top off each other well the 3 in i cut off make for a min crate for a form bait bag etc also put a 90 % hing so it does not close down on my hand when grabing gear
