I was participating, but was able to get a few pictures and video during the event.  I made a little video that could be posted in the safety section.

This is great!  I never thought of the bag of water trick, that's slick.   :smt003

I did not get all the tricks documented, but hope others will add suggestions that they thought were helpful.

1.  I learned I need to buy a manual pump to get water out of hull while on the water. It filled up while practicing and was barely floating by the end of the day.

2.  Also a blow up air bladder is nice to have as an emergency floatation device but could be hooked to paddle or put in a hull to keep it afloat.  They roll up nice.

3.  Large carabiners and rope can be use for towing or being pulled but also to make a loop in rope so you can hang over kayak and put your foot in it to help with getting you back on board.

Next logical step is do "self-rescue" in rough water, whole different animal

And maybe try it with and without PFD

The outback is easy.  Just reach up and grab the base of the fins, or the drive well if the drive isn't installed and flip her right over.

Getting back in, well that's a little harder.  :smt003

Thanks for posting the vid DG.

Someone had an outback out there but did not try it myself.  I still plan on buying a new hobie soon and will definitely try self rescue before venturing to far from shore.

I would have liked to see a Hobie outback or a PA righted.

I went out there with dive belt and all my dive gear and it still flipped back over pretty easy.  I broke my dive flag and my camera mount for my speargun.  I broke something else but can't remember what it was right now.

Good times

It's great seeing this... Falling out of your kayak is never a good thing... Of course, getting back on the kayak on calm condition like what was shown above is ideal to learn the basics. I would love to do something like this with heavy current or even choppy/windy conditions.

Anybody interested in getting themselves in a safe but hairier conditions?

I am game, but still think this was good practice for cold water.  Several guys said this was their first time taking a kayak on the ocean and it can be intimidating and dangerous even in not so rough conditions.  Like either side of this class had large waves rolling into rocks and could easily have pushed someone into them, rolled them or worse.
