This is somewhat embarrassing.
I have been an internet fisherman for a while and want to come of the closet.
I have a good boat and some fishing gears but dont know what to do with them. I am confused by what gears, rigs, and how to use them for what fish and where to drop the line.

Every time I take my kids out on our boat, they come home with much disappointment. Yesterday we tried the north jetty on the boat with nothing to show. That makes me sad.

Having said all this, I am looking for a fishing teacher. I am not worried about kayak fishing yet. I need to be a proficient fishermam first before kayaking for a safety sake.

I live at Fernbridge, near Fortuna.
More than happy to compensate your time and knowledge and beer.

I want to put smile on my family when we go fishing in the future. I realize that you don't always get fish.
But rocks, snappers, butts, lings would make nice sushi dinner for my kids.

Thanks
Michael

Welcome to NCKA Michael.  There're a few of us live close to your area.I'm sure someone will chime in.  Do you have a fish finder on your boat?  If you do, look for the rocky structures and fish around these area.  You can buy a on the shelf shrimp-flies (make sure to remove some flies if they have more than 2 shrimp flies on the leader).  Tip the hooks with a mall piece of quids and you should catch some fish with this basic rig.

Thanks. Eric would be like hiring Pavarotti to help me prepare a birthday song. Just a couple hours going over my gears and situational adaptation knowledge would be my level of lesson. My dad didn't teach me fishing .:-(
