Fished N of San Simeon, for a slow day, but got a 2 lb blue rockfish w/ a 10 lb ling attached to it.  Thought I was nailed to the bottom, until the bottom started headshakin! The Ling had him sideways in his mouth, and he was not going to let go!  I finally saw my opening -a two inch gap on one side of the mouth and I slipped by boca grip in there around his lip.  Sometimes it doesn't pay to be greedy!  Other than that, we caught coppers and a  few vermillions, also saw a sei whale- great day!

Great job on the hitchhiker.

One time last year, on the Becky Anne, we were cleaning fish, with the slop going out the scuppers and saw a lingcod at the surface biting on the end of the rinse hose.  We quickly redeployed the hose over the rail (rather than through the scupper).  He hit the nozzle again, latched on, and we nailed him with the gaff.

We were cracking up!!

Love to get down your way with some time and the yaks, maybe a weekend in Novermber. We'll give you a head's up before we go down there.  (Camping at San simeon probably)

One time I pulled a hitchhiked greenling on the surface and saw it was a good size(>30"). Then I turned back to reach the net, I found no net on the boat. Grrrr!  :smt011 I don't use guff, so no guff either. Last resort - use a stringer, but I could not pull the ling close enough w/o scaring it. I had played with it for ~3 minutes on the surface, finally it gave up the bite and went deep.  :smt009

Question - Is Lingcod fishing still open in November in the south of lopez pt? I heard it is, but like to get confirmed.

Cool!

That means I can keep fishing down here till Thanksgiving, if the swell stays down!
