I checked out Muir Beach for a early launch, but where can you park when the gates are not open? Not south on highway 1 that I could see, and could not find anything withing a half of mile north. Is that little nook on the north, just about 100 yard outside the gate cool? Thanks for any help, Ron

The situation at Muir sucks. The parks people keep the gate closed so the locals can have a quiet beach to themselves every morning. And that's after having spent however many millions of dollars last summer remodeling the parking lot.

I wa tere for the first time yesterday.  Man that lot is slick, I be the cost of the lot and bridge could have morethan paid to fix Muir Woods Road...
I was thinking about parking outside the gate after reading all the discussion on here as of late and the blockades right at the gate are glaring for sure.  Looks like a serious hump to any reasonable spots either way on Hwy1 :(

Your best bet might be making friends with a local or the folks at the Pelican Inn and gaining permission to park that way.  otherwise, its a looong walk for sure

I'd rather they lose the gate and charge $8 to park or something. That's a small price to pay for an early-morning launch.
