I fished the Port this AM.  I stopped by Penny’s to get some minnows and his store was in total disarray.  When asked what’s up he told me the store was 2 doors down a few days ago.  He moved because the old place had no AC and it was killing the minnows…..as well as the business.  Off to the Port I went to drift the minnows and try for some BB.  No love on the minnows (had one small takedown and lost another).  As for the BB I ask the membership;  what’s the method for BB fishing in the Port?  I’m new to BB fishing and I threw spinner baits and Rat L Traps under the docks and around the rocky shorelines but was unsuccessful.  It was overcast and sprinkled a little today but was way nice not to incinerate under the glaring sun we’ve had recently!!!  The tide was good today with low at 7 AM and a 3.8 foot flood.  However the fish weren’t having it and stayed away.  A couple of photos for your approval…

Sunrise....kinda.

A couple of the locals....does anyone know what kind of birds these are?

Look like finches.
Never got any bass on a minnow in the port. Cranks along the drop during high tide only have done any good for me for bass

When the tides coming in or going out the stripes will eat that minnow. Deep they are now, best results are goin farther than the docks and working your way back.

An fall is the Port time. Almost there. On e it gets cold it's port days.

If only we had a Orinthologist on NCKA. I bet he'd even be smart and call himself Bird or something ;)

And I'll say that those birds either can't read or have a serious problem with authority.

Mr Matt quote "Never got any bass on a minnow in the port. Cranks along the drop during high tide only have done any good for me for bass"

Mr Matt the minnows were for striped bass not BB.  "Cranks along the drop"......?  Thanks for the imput.

Is a Bb a black bass?
I'm all confused. Disregard my advice. Sorry.

Sorry about the confusion regarding "BB".   I must have seen it somewhere referring to black bass.  My main mission Tues was for stripers but I have heard the black bass fishing in the port is pretty good.  Not being a BB fisherman I thought I'd give it a try.  I know a lot of the membership are good black bass fishermen so I thought I'd reach out to the team for some 411.  Thanks for the imput.

personally i think the bass in the port are damn small. The biggest one i caught there was around 3-4 pounds. You're better off going to Folsom or natoma

House finches.. the rare thing I can contribute to this educated community....
House finches won't take a sabiki rig, but if you hook 'em through the beak just right you might attract an angry Audubon Society member......

Got it.  Thanks.  As for the bird it serenaded me while drifting and was very colorful....but wouldn't take a minnow!  Thanks all.
