Anyone going out kayak fishing in Fort Bragg or Albion either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning? I have to inspect a couple apartment complex roofs Friday morning for work in Fort Bragg and want to get out fishing afterwards since I'm from Sacramento area. Albion tournament 2014 was my first time out to sea so now I am excited to get back out on the salt water even if its just back to the first Albion cove depending on the swells. I'd love to go, but the forecast is snotty. Fairly windy and 8x8 swells. No thanks.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Does anyone remember what the swells were on that Saturday of this Albion 2014 tournament - were those 10 ft swells or 6 or 8? I'm new to ocean kayaking and trying to gauge bad from not worth it on swells - normally the only waves I have to worry about are from wake borders on the lakes I fish and those courteous jet skiers  :smt044

I just took a look at ocean conditions over here and visually waves don't look bad, but wind is making it choppy. And when they say 8 @ 8 that is usually the worst forecast for the day. Doesn't mean it will be like that all day.  Does mean that it could get that bad between point arena and cape Mendocino and it could change without warning so be prepared for the worst.

I'd paddle out with you on Saturday, but I don't really like fishing in those conditions.  That short period swell makes me sea-sick.

The swells for the Albion Open were 7x7, fourteen miles west at the Point Arena bouy.
