Here's what I do when my Shimano Cardiffs need some love...

I send them back to Shimano for a $20-$30 "service", and they send me back brand new reels. I didn't know they were gonna do this, but was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for all the pointers and advice. Opening up a reel and taking it all apart was slightly daunting at first, but once I got going I kind of enjoyed it. With the help of Alan's video for the order of the washers and where to apply grease, I got her all cleaned up and put back together correctly. My brother came by and checked it out and said it all seemed good to him. Best part is that I will now know what to do if I have any issue in the future and the uneasiness about breaking down a reel is 100% gone  :thumleft:.
