Happy Independence Day!  I'll take some time today and reflect on the courage it took our forefathers to sign the Declaration of Independence; putting themselves in harm's way for being traitors to England and at risk for death by hanging.

Well that was about the lamest 4th I've had in a while.

I thought it would be fun to watch the SF fireworks from the water. So naturally, I rented a sailboat lol. 33 foot Hunter. Dumb idea.

We didn't even make it out of the harbor at Alameda Club Nautique before one of the ladies was green. We were under power for the first hour until getting ambitious. So we unfurled the main and jibsail and trimmed it for comfort rather than speed.

The forecast showed 5-15 knit winds, OTW it was a steady 20 to 25 gusting up to 40 knots.  Just totally blown out, gale force. So even w barely any sheets out it was just too gnarly for the ladies, who were like let's get the h--- outta here.

Tried a lil more after x,ing and toured the SF embarcadero for a little, getting a wind shadow from the city. My goal was to steam toward Aquatic Park and hideout there until the show kick off at 2130 or so.   But no, bArely rounded the cruise ship pier when someone's over the rail and says let's head to mccovey cove it'll be calm there lol.

So 180 back to the cove and while yes it's flat the wind is ripping through like a case of the clap, back up to 30 knots or so. Mutiny mutiny mutiny.

Fine I shd know when I'm beat so turn the wheel back to alameda where we watched the San Mateo coast light up w rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air.  SF was obscured and from view and so was Oakland for the most part.

Hit the road and drove home through what may have been an amazing corridor of fireworks, but at that point I was over it lol.

Back home by 2300 several hundred lighter in the pocket but glad I didn't have to walk the plank lol.

Happy Independence Day all.
