Yay!  I got one! --    :smt044

My mission today was to try out my newly fabricated rod holder and try to use the new spiffy new sabiki rod to get some bait here at Cabrillo Beach in LA Harbor.  I have very little experience with a sabkiki.    I was OTW rather late - about 7 am or so.

I had trouble finding any bait for a while UNTIL I found the lizards -- (I know where they live!) -- and I managed to easily get  bunches of little lizards in short order -- I've been told they were good bait -- so I filled my bait tube with small lizard fish -- plenty.

And I fished. ... And I fished ...… No bites .. at all …  :smt009  It was looking like a skunk trip.  It was getting close to 1 pm .. and I'd even decided it was time to go, but made one last drift over by the Marina -- and BAM! --- fortunes change in an instant ---  It looks legal …

It IS LEGAL -- YAY !!! --

my 2nd legal California Halibut. -- This one caught on a lizard.   :P

Oh yeah -- I got spooled.  Here's a nasty spool I dragged up …  :angry1:

THIS IS TOTAL FUN!   :smt006

Lizard or lizardfish?  We were using lizardfish way down south.

I'm down here by myself this week -- My wife and youngest daughter are up in Arcata  :smt010  I don't often fire up the grill for just one   :smt009 …  So last night I just plopped one of the top fillets into a cast iron skillet with olive oil, salt, garlic, and a little red pepper last and served with good ole tater tots.  It was a simple meal, but oh - so - tasty !!!!  :smt044  - sorry no pix of that.   :smt005 --  If any of the rest ends up on the grill -- you know photos will end up here.   :smt002 --- @ Soma -- NICE!  VERY NICE!!!  I've never been that far south!

Saturday night I dined alone on one of the top fillet cooked simply in a skillet with olive oil, salt, garlic powder and red pepper --- so very tasty !!  (My wife and youngest daughter are up in Arcata, CA.)

This evening Mr. Halibut and I went to Burbank to see my middle daughter and her boyfriend.

Mr. Halibut was the featured dinner guest.
