Question to Chuck, did you feel cold later on during fishing? Did the clothes keep you dry? One time I had a roll during a launch, i felt cold later & uncomfortable.
Since it was a nice warm sunny day, I was quite comfortable all day long in my wet suit.  Had it been cold and windy, it might have been different.

Excellent weather day at the BH!  water was glassy calm, no wind at all with little drift.  i think i was the first on the water; 2nd drop lost my $7 MM2 iron bait  :smt011.  Fished with a whole squid and pulled up a nice red; must have been close to 22-24".  misc blues and a smattering of gophers here and there; maybe a china.  caught prolly 15 fish in 1 hour and filled out my stringer with blues on chrome bar.  also pulled in a 27" ling and released it accidentally but i had a lot of fish to clean already.

Hey, Greg. What happened? I saw you subdued ling on yak. Did Ling jump out while you were paddling back or during fishing? I did not noticed the accident.  :smt002

Whoops my bad on the highway directions...what do expect from someone who landed on Pebble Beach instead of BH.

Anyone from the south bay take 84 from Redwood City to BH?  On a map it looks like a straight shot but a winding mountain road over the hills to the coast.  I've been coming across the bay on 92 and could take 84 and the Dunbarton Bridge instead.

Greg, thanks for the report.  It sounds like it pays to be the first on the water and to fish hard early.  As I remember John was with you and he limited out as well.

The base of 84 is just a few minutes from where I'm living down here in the Bay Area, and I've been driving Hwy 84 for 30 years. So for me it makes sense to use 84 for Bean Hollow 100% of the time. Otherwise I think darn near everyone else has got to be better off using 92 no matter where you are coming from, even the South Bay. This applies only during non-traffic hours though, as 92 tends to get nasty before 84 does. So on summer weekend afternoons, I'd recommend taking 84 on the way back, and stop at Alices up at the junction :)

Regards,
Scott

Scott,

Thanks for the AAA road guide info.  I hope you're having lots of fun and taking lots of pics of the little one.  Sounds like a plan, 92 or hwy 1 first thing in the morning and 84 on the way home to avoid the HMB traffic jam.  Alice's at the junction sounds like a good place for lunch...any recommendations?

Here's yet another picture of Eric and his big catch of the day.  Everyone else was packed up before I could take a picture.  I would have liked to have shown ChuckE's ling and Eric's side-by-side.  I guess we've decided not to show too many mass carnage pics.

Going to BH at 6am from East Bay, I always take 92 and south on 1.
Going home, I take 92 and 880 - not had a prob with backup on 92 before Sunday...
But this weeked I noticed the traffic jam at 1/92 and took JTF's way instead, straight north on 1 and through SF - it was a good call, no backup until downtown SF, and even that wasn't bad.

Long day of fishing, but spectacular conditions, and great company on the water and beach too.  Really good meeting more NCKA'ers, most of whom caught a good amount/quality of fish.  Chuck, sporting a bulging clip o' fish, was recruiting a new NCKA'er on the beach also, guy (another called Eric) who just bought a T140.  Seemed like a cool and enthusiastic future member.

As for me, I came up decidedly short on fish, just 1 decent cabbie (Eric, it wasn't a ling) and a china.  No wolf eel, but i did catch a ~ 15 lb pink starfish (prob around 25 tentacles).

As soon as I launched and turned on the GPS to go to my marks, it ran out of batteries.
Fishfinder battery pack died in the middle of the day too.
Bunch of gophers and little chinas, like Pirhana, promptly cleaned my hook of squid every time I dropped.
They bit off the tails of my 2 killer swimbaits.

Rationing my little remaining squid on a 4oz diamond bar, I fished the 30-50 nearshore, blind, and out of luck.
Nice of Chuck to donate a jacksmelt at the end of the day - didn't work for me, but nice try - thank you!

I think I will fish BH one more time, weather permitting, and next time, start out to 90-100ft deep, then after a few good fish, come in closer gradually, with working FF.

Landing was fun, too - started getting pushed sideways at shorebreak, but dropped my paddle in, it acted like a rudder and the wave just pushed my yak onto the beach pointing straight ahead.  I have no clue how I held my paddle in the water, but I am sure it looked textbook, like I knew what I was doing.

Trying to recruit 1-2 people to come to Paddlefest this weekend.

I fished at 90 to start.   clouds of tiny blues and yellow tail rockfish. all my luck was 50-80, the cab was in
30.   my sonar  was key, I have to say, I found little groups of fish and tried to precision bomb them.
I did a lot of paddling around and looking and it paid off with a lot of action if not great size.

watch out for the poompkin festival next weekend, 92 will be a tarpit except for early early.
