My wife finally thinks it’s a good time for her to get a kayak and do some fishing with me so we go out to the CCK Paddlefest yesterday for her try out some yaks.
However I have ulterior motives: I’ve had my Hobie Outback for a year now and am wanting to get a Revo and start some salt fishing.  If I can convince her that the Outback is THE boat she needs then I can get the Revo!   Only thing is she likes to fly fish using dry flies.  I tell her “No problem, you just have to learn to side cast”.
So, while my wife is off to the ladies room I see James over at the Hobie area of the Paddlefest, reintroduce myself and tell him of my plan for the Revo.  A few minutes later my wife and I are looking through the different yaks and I see James over in the FeelFree area.  We go over and he tells my wife that he wants to get her into the right kayak for her type of fishing.  Plan On!  Or so I thought.  James tells her that the Lure 11.5 is the boat she needs to try.  What the hell… OK, maybe he is letting her try a slow paddle yak first and then will steer her over to try out the Hobie so she will see how superior they are.  Nope, he says the next boat she should try is the Jackson Kilroy and to compare it to the Lure.  I am starting to get disillusioned.
She tries takes out the Kilroy and finds the Lure more to her liking.  We finally get over to the Hobie area and tell Bird  she wants to take out the Outback and me the Revo.  “Wow, this is real nice… relaxed and peaceful, and easy to get around in” she says.  I smile and start feeling things come together.  Then “But I want to stand up and fly fish”  Sigh.  “What about just side casting?”  “No, I want to stand up”.  “But the Lure is a lot slower and you will have problems when it gets windy”.  “I think I need to go back and try the Lure again.”
She tries the Lure and thinks it is the boat for her.  Thanks a lot James!  At least he comes over to me and says ”Sorry about the Revo”
There is still hope.  I have cast some doubt and she now thinks we should rent the Lure and try it in different conditions before she makes up her mind.
Nice to meet your daughter, James.  She is special!

You make me sound bad here. I only want her to get the right boat for what she wants. I suggested she try all the boats before making a decision. Happy wife happy life. But then again I can't figure that part out in my own life.

Thanks for the kind word about my daughter. I couldn't agree more she is very special.

Too funny!

You could always work the angle that you need BOTH the Revo and Lure - that way you have options for a wide range of conditions!  Win-win!   Good luck!

Good luck, hope it all works out for you
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

All in fun, James.  We really appreciated your suggestions and insight yesterday.  Of course I want my to get the boat that's best for her.

I think I had it easer my wife got real frustrated trying to keep her yak going in a straight line and when the wind came up forget it, not a happy camper :smt013. Thats when I introduced her to the Revo she has been happy ever since. this is what we ended up with mine is the small one thats what she thinks :smt044.
