What are the best settings trolling for salmon? I will fish next to someone who is getting good marks and Im showing nothing on the screen, usually when Im deeper than 80' and as deep as 220'. All settings are factory standard.

In which setting; Broadband or DownScan?  You can set it to Saltwater use.  Also, check to see if you are running in 82 or 200 Hz.

Suprisingly, Salmon are among the TOUGHEST fish to have show up on a fishfinder.

Sonar, I think its set on 82/200, but Im not positive.

If you are running in a split frequency, you may see them on one frequency, but less likely on the other due to the sensitivity.  Salmon are tough to see on a FF.  The boat I fish with has a quite expensive unit with a transducer that costs more than most kayaks.  Even with that setup, they are tough to find.  Best bet is to track the bait.

There is no magic setting on the unit.  I usually suggest to start by setting it in saltwater mode & work from there.  Don't make too many changes to the settings in advanced mode ... things tend to get worse.  The processor does a pretty darn good job of tuning itself.  A lot of what "other" units see is sea clutter, bait, etc... and not necessarily salmon.

Thanks bill. Im not picking up alot of bait either past 80ft, so ill start with the salt water setting. Whats the better frequency for 100 ft and deeper? I pretty much keep it on a split screen with sonar and chart. Past 50' or so i cant see much at all on the dsi and it gets really faint past 100

DSI will be faint/lost around the 100 fow mark.  I see the ame thing on my unit as well.

The 83 will shoot deeper than the 200 BUT it will also be a much broader cone angle.  If you plan on a lot of deeper water stuff, I might suggest going with a 50/200 transducer.  The HDI units will take a regular 50/200 (without DSI) if you just want it for Broadband use.  The DSI screen will still come up but the image will not be "true" since a "regular" 50/200 or 83/200 (non HDI) tranducer lacks the 455/800 frequency that makes up the DSI portion.
