Nice report. I have to hookup with you locals down there. Haven't been down that way since last summer.

Greg and PJ, count me in for an outing when conditions are good. I've some experience in the Cambria area but could sure use some local knowledge. I'm also interested in what DFG plans for the area and supporting your efforts to be heard.

I thought the season ended Sept. 30th. in that area. Great news to hear it is open through October.

I have only fished one of these areas (caught nothing but weather was very rough).  I have eyeballed them in drives north & I know there's coastal access but haven't done a thorough scouting.  some day i'll get in there & give a report.

Oh how I miss it down there!.  I used to fish Avila and Shell Beach for rockfish and hali's.  Talk about a perfect place to kayak!.  I never fished up in Cambria but I did plenty of Cable jobs! haha..   lonely housewives and all.  :smt003

Also, a little FYI, around a year ago Mr. Steven Hearst gave some 13/14 miles of coastline to State Parks.  They have been drafting plans regarding what to do with this new acquisition.

State taxpayers paid tens of millions for those easements and the coastal strip. So far, the park hasn't done much to promote the new public access. The fences are still there and even some cattle. Because the fences give the impression that the area is closed to the public, I asked the state parks district supervisor about access earlier this spring. As long as you can find a place to park legally, and the beach isn't closed to protect sensitive wildlife, the area is open to enjoy.

Anyone ever fish out of Moonstone Beach in Cambria? There is a small boat launch at the north end and some kelp about 1/2 mile off shore. I will be at Avila in a couple of weeks and can't decide where to fish.

Thanks! Scott
