Anybody own or used one of these?

Thoughts?

And this: http://www.fishhunter.com/product/fishfinder/

I guess these are the next-gen fish finders...

H-bird had one out YEARS ago .... you don't them on the market much (if at all) anymore ... for a good reason.

Lowrance has the "Ice Machine" which is their "portable Kayak" unit too...  Holds a head unit, battery, couple little tackle trays and keeps the cords all stored when not in use.  Like a "lunch box" fishfinder.  Choose your head unit with or without a GPS unit, in B&W or Color.

With the configuration of many SOT kayaks today, with transducer access through hatches or mounting in scupper holes, plus screen mounting points all over via adapters and tracks, almost  any of the fish finders we typically use can be considered portable

I'm using a Humminbird 176i portable. Its performance has been inconsistent.
I like the light weight, and that the batteries are all inside the unit, but it is not as robust as I would like, both the case itself and the connections.

If thats your budget I'd get a basic Black and White unit with a 3 to 4 inch screen.  I'd get combo w/ GPS.  You should also consider screen brightness with glare around you.  Your cell phone has good chance of getting trashed if its out in the open.  If you start with a basic unit you'll end upgrading and buying a better unit.  It cost more in the long run.  I guess its obvious my advice is NO to that unit.
