Hey guys, just came across a sale ad from Sports Authority, and saw that the Lifetime Tamarak 10' kayaks are on sale for $225. (I think the sale goes through this Saturday)  I bought two of these about a year ago for fishing, and they sure work great for the price.  Super stable,  I've had them on lakes, rivers, out rockfishing in 4 foot swells, never came close to an unintentional immersion even once. They don't paddle or track great, but they do fine for shorter distance trips.  If anyone is looking for a cheap second kayak, or if you know someone on a tight budget looking to get into kayak fishing, these are a great option to look at.

Don't get me wrong, they're no Hobie, but you could buy a fleet of these for the same price   :smt003

Little yaks are great for convenience and affordability - I started out with a couple of 9' Mainstreams that we used to paddle offshore over at the Cape.  It's amazing how much we did out of those mini's.  Looks like a good deal - I too recommend having something like that around for kids, riverplay, hike and dive...etc.

They are plenty big enough too, one friend of mine is 6'2", and another is probably around 250 lbs, neither had any problems spending half a day on them. I'm not small myself either at 5'11" / 180, and I have probably over 200 hours of seat time in them.

I have seen some big dudes, in a little yak, or was it a tiny dude in a big yak? No, it was BigJim, in a tiny big yak!  :smt044

Anyone tried one of the West Marine Pompano's, with $100 rebate that would be under $450 for a decent second yak or good first timer???

I have a Pompano 12, it's my first kayak. It works. Of course I have nothing to compare it to, but i have gone a couple miles off shore, and up and down and around the bay and it seems fine. I wish I could stand up to pee, though. They're often on sale for $100 off.

The Pompano is the older Tarpon 120 sold by Perception to West Marine.
