Gearing up for a few trips into N. Cal, Oregon & Washington this summer, looked at my old salmon hoochies from last season (when I thought I had figured this knot out) and was disgusted with my work. Re-discovered a cleaner way to tie, and have been re-doing old ones and tying new ones... thanks you-tube...

Experimenting with different colors of squid, tinsel inserts & beads, tied with mostly 4/0 barb-less hooks, some have a 5/0 on the trailer, with 4/0 on the slide. So much cheaper to tie myself...

Very nice work.  You have the you-tube link?

Are you trolling the hoochies or mooching them?

Nice, but you don't want to use circle hooks when trolling though.  Circle hooks are for mooching or baitfishing

That's kind of where I was trying to go but I don't know the regs in Oregon and Washington.

Was going to try both - have had luck with some squid attached to the hooks, never trolled deep with them. Was planning on throwing something on them vs. being fished by themselves. Figured it would be safest to go barb-less since I'll be fishing lots of salmon country... didn't want to take the chance...

Sorry - here's a better video... (starts around 2 min) must be way easier with some small vice-grips, my fingers are pretty raw from hand tying...

Take a look at the www.TIE-FAST.com web site.  They make a great tool for splicing line, snelling hooks, and attaching line to your terminal tackle.
