I have been pouring lead for a long time, and have never had this problem, but this last weekend I was pouring 4oz heads, and I could not get the heads out of the mold. I even broke a couple of hooks prying on them. I had to  take a screwdriver and pry the heads out. Is there a release agent that will take care of this?
Thanks,
Jeff

Soot it with candle? Never had this problem before. Did you make some test runs first to heat the mold?

Yeah, but it'll take some free jig heads in order for me to spill the beans.  :smt003  :smt002

J/K Jeff.  I don't have anything to help but somebody will.

Herb, I did that awhile ago when I wasn't getting complete pours, and yes I made quite a few test, and they came out ok. I still made about 60 jig heads and only about 10 were complete with the barbs on the hook shank. I don't mind not havingthe barbs, the Big Hammers last llonger!!  :smt044
Dileck, I will have a care pack for you at GS8 !!!!

Mine have been sticking pretty bad. It must be that the molds are getting old. As far as the barbs, pour faster and get to the point where you know you have the right amount in just before it comes out then slow slow down.

Try sooting it with a birthday candle. It also sounds like you have some un-pure lead it might be too hard. The bigger heads need to be poured super fast or they won't fill up and the will come out with a goofy layered look.

I use stuff called Frankford Arsenal Drop Out Bullet Mold Release Agent and Spray (should be able to amazon it,) it only costs a few bucks and will last you a real long time. With sticky molds, check the molds for burrs around the edges, might have to remove them with emery cloth or a small file, clean them thoroughly with non-oil cleaner like brake cleaner, spray this release stuff on, make sure your molds are also up to temperature with your lead, make sure your lead is hot enough before pouring and you shouldn't have sticking or incomplete pours. I cast bullets with fine details, but until the molds are up to temps, I remelt everything because they rarely fill completely. Good luck and have fun!!
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I think midway USA has the Frankford arsenal spray. I think that is their own brand.

I would dilute some Molasses in a spray bottle about 50/50 with H2O. Spray the mold lightly, then cast a jig head. Probably going to toss that one, but the next one should be fine. Does the same thing as the candle but smells sweeter. Repeat as needed.

I was recently getting into pouring lead as I had some old equipment and molds laying around. Seemed fun and cheap. Then I found out buying molds are over $40 a piece, and you could need several to get what you want. Doesn't seem cost effective anymore. Do you buy your molds cheaper somewhere?

Wilderness, an 8 oz. jig head costs anywhere from $4-$6 each. If you leave 8 on the ocean floor, there's the price of your mold. I can pour 8 oz. jigs for $1.05 each. But then again I only pour a few different molds for the ocean. E Bay has a good selection usually.

Good point. I guess if you are doing a lot of ocean fishing with snags it makes more sense. Still have to factor in the price of heating lead, the time, etc. But if I could make some ling bars...hmm... my wallet would hurt less.
