I am thinking about going out for my first halibut trip lthis weekend if the wind cooperates. I'm wondering about the timing of the tides. High tide is at 10:51am and low tide at 4:07pm. Is that too late in the day to drift out and back in to try for Halibut? What is the latest in the day you might start that trip at the ARW?

Good luck as it seems the butts are already on their migration out. Party boats have been getting good butt counts in the central bay around angel island. You might get lucky and scratch one up. Time your trip to hit the tide switch. The switch is your hour window to catch one. If the bottom of the tide is @ 4pm I'd start around 3 and fish till 5 or so.

I didn't know they left the area this early. I looked at the wind forecast and it doesn't look good. It looks like any fishing is going to have to be early in the day this weekend.

Wind is the factor, especially early in year when we get the stronger winds.  Typically the mornings are best and afternoons windy.  Unless you get a rare windless day, odds are that the afternoon low will be blown out.  However that morning Hi tide looks really good in terms of time and water movement.  If the wind is OK, get OTW around 0700-0800 - fish the last few hours of the incoming tide, thru the change and first few of the outgo if the wind allows.  It's a 4.8 incoming and 3.4 outgo on Sunday - those are pretty good tides for butts - the water stays clearer on the smaller tides.  Timing and tides look good for a butt trip, pending wind.  Good luck!
