You can always cut an extra strip & "back" it with this strip to make it thicker.  3/8 does tend to flex a bit after it sits in the sun but the stuff is TOUGH.  It takes a little more time & effort/tools/etc but you can use a small strip to form a 'T' shape which will keep it from flexing.
