I was going to launch north of Bean but the shorebreak at Pebble Beach wasn't launchable.  Headed to Bean, big shorebreak there too.  It was pretty cold this morning. I sat there and looked at the sets as they were coming in, about 6 waves, 1 to 2 seconds apart.  Then there was a short lull.  So I decided to go set up the kayak.  Was gonna wait till the sun started rising over the hill.  A little while later, the ranger opened the gate.  I parked inside and went down to the beach and waited for another lull in the waves.  The ranger came down and told me to be carefull because there are a lot of wipeouts in the bean.  He said he would wait until I launched. Finally I took off and paddled my butt off to clear a set that was coming in.  I cleared the cove then I couldn't beleive how big the swell really was. You could lose site of me as each swell passed.  Since I was already out there I started fishing.  Fished about 4 hours and I kept looking at the cove.  I kept saying to myself.....Oh Sh-t!  Go take your punishment for laughing at last weeks kayakers.  Well to cut it short, I still have bad Karma coming.  I timed it just right and made it to shore.  If you only knew how happy I was.

big waves are real fun if you have two hatches, as long as they dont get tore off, the fear of getting pitched and/or smacked by my kayak is a real adrenaline rush.  i was real nervous last week, tomorrow i will be also, nice rockies, were you using squid, or plastics??  jtf..

Bill,

 :smt038

Congrats on conquering the Bean (by yourself no less!) and having a nice stringer of fish to show for it.  I think everyone last week was laughing nervously because we all knew that it only takes one sleeper wave to eat up any one of us.  It just wasn't your time today.
