Have some questions about North Sac river.

Does water flow rate make much difference in the fishing, if so less flow or more flow? What point do you say too much flow not worth being on the water?

What is best web site for most accurate flow rate?

Do you always head downstream/drift exit river some place else or paddle back upstream to where you start?

Do you stop and fish from bank?

Do you anchor often?

How about overnight trips, any ever planned/group trips Redding to Red Bluff maybe?

Thanks,

I'll speak for trouting in the Redding to Red Bluff area:
1. Not really, but fluctuations will turn the fish off.  As long as the flows have been stable for a week, the fish don't care if it's high or low.  But it will effect your ability to fish them.  Fishing in 3500 cfs is a whole lot easier than in 15,000 cfs.  Spring and fall flows in the 4500 cfs range are ideal, but I have caught fish in peak summer flows over 15k cfs.
2.http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/uv/?site_no=11370500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
3.  Almost always a drift trip, but there are a few spots that can be worked up/down depending on flows (Bonnyview launch, even Posse Grounds up to the ACID canal, and Caldwell Park working up river....Hobie w/ Mirage drive is very handy in the river to get upstream, and to make a controlled drift downstream while hands-free)
4.  Absolutely, tons of accessible spots to be shore fished and only reached via boat/yak.
5.  I don't anchor up anywhere.  It could be done, but the river is pretty swift/churning, I don't have any desire to anchor up in it.
6.  Overnighters, yes.  Any gravel bar is fair game.

Hope that helps!  :smt001

Thanks just the type of info I was looking for. Bought an anchor trolley four years ago for the Hobie but never installed, wondering if I would find it useful now.

Looks like we are moving up that way first week of June, wife gave me a go pro and says she is willing to shuttle me between launch sites, curious to find out how soon after I retire on June 2nd she will want me to make overnight trips and get out of her hair for a couple days.

When you get all settled in up here come see me at the shop. I'll share all the intel with you that the natives have been so gracious to share with me. This is a great area if you like the outdoors, more to do with in a few hrs then one life time will permit. But we can sure try!
