I think it's super funny that -if folks put an article about biology of sharks or shark behavior-some folks may think that means they are scared of GWS attacks...where as we have tons of articles about folks carrying guns or having a gun 'protection' and no one says a thing.
Interest in something does not mean a person has fear of that interest, but just interest.
I have gotten this response to my sharing of  the nova documentary as an interesting thing, from Fb friends, fellow kayakers and from friends in my e-mail funny stuff group.
Amy I sat and watched the documentary and felt very lucky to see such beautiful creatures as they are in their own home ,plus some super new and rare footage as well as learn new things about all types of sharks,we never once got scared to go kayaking again.
I shared the nova special here to spread the good score it is.

now joking about GWS...that is funny shit imo
Didnt mean to get any sand in your ointment, i wasnt pointing a finger about you, its just that folks are going to get hit no matter what. Besides, i like being scared on the water, makes me feel very alive later on.
As far as guns go, there is always back and forth on that issue, always. And being apples and oranges what does that have to do with my post?

I liked the video.  Still might get one of those shark deterent devices for diving.  I am sure they don't want to eat me but if I can mess with his sensors right before I was taste tested that could save my life or a life of being more disabled than I already am.

What kind of black paint was used on that kayak?  Maybe a plain stripe pattern with wider bands will work - no cool factor but might be more effective.

How far were you "launched"?  Is the story posted here somewhere?

Yep I got singled out. I was the only one with stripes out of 3 kayaks and pedals too.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”

The show reports that sharks are color blind - but they sure seem to like Yum Yum Yellow!

Krylon rattle can for plastic.....it would chip, but stayed intact. I stripped it all off after the test failed.  :smt009

i was launched up and out to the left......I just barely hit the water and was "scooped up" by my now sideways and in her mouth kayak. We went round&round in circles as i sank deeper and deeper.

**you can see more details of all the reported NCKA encounters below:

It is more comfortable for me know they are around and maybe even under me,then to wonder if they are around-if that makes sense.
When I am on the water ..look a seagull -and over there a pelican-and over here a seal---there goes a dolphin and minutes later a whale...these are animals that breath air,so they are everywhere above and on top of the water-and if they are all there-every time-then so are the ones under the water ---every time ..

getting launched must suck and be terrifying-so of course I dont want that...but watching a documentary wont get me bit..maybe help one day

My first day fishing the SanMateoCoast a fellow NCKA brother got hit.....so EVERYONE knew of the dangers. I / we are well aware of who lurks below. I've watched EVERY shark documentary before and after my encounter, but was hopping that when my time came, it would just turn and go away, like it did Guitazan one day there.

mine followed but did not touch the kayak...I feel lucky to have seen one though...and not get bumped or worse.
I forget mostly now and just fish, but sometimes it hits me all of sudden to look around or down after a splash or noise or even weird feeling makes me start scanning.
I went out last Friday in huge wind and swell for hours and stayed out too long.By the time I did head in I had to paddle in the trough of the swell as much as I could and watch the ocean side for sneakers that might roll me.
I was moving along very slow and careful ,when out of the corner of my eye ,almost out of my field of vision -two teenage see lions came up like twin periscopes at the same time about 8 feet apart....made me jerk...Really got me good...thought it was two fins for a split second... :smt005
