My experience is that usually it's almost not worth fishing during the week of a full moon.  I usually end up working hard to catch a fish or being skunked.  Exceptions are salmon fishing in Alaska, where we always limit, or fishing off the rocks at Laguna Beach when I was a kid, we always caught lots of fish.

Do you guys have suggestions for catching fish during a full moon, or are your experiences different than mine?
"Pedo Viejo" is what Antonio called me.

IMO bass fishing can suck the week of the full moon if the night sky's are clear , I do not care if the moon is full when I am in the salt it just means I can leave the dock extra early..

It seems to make more of a difference on whether the fish you are targeting are 'feeding' or 'reacting'.  Example, trout feeding on shad will have more feeding opportunities with a bright moon, the bite will be slower (in my experience).  Bass will hit out of anger/aggression (in addition to feeding), and are less likely phased with the moon.  Just my two cents.  :smt001

I used to not pay much attention to the moon phase for fishing, but after aligning the moon phases with my fishing logs, I'm now a believer.  If the conditions have been clear and unchanging for a long period of time, daytime fishing during a full moon is rough.  However, if you have storm systems moving through and generally unsettled weather, the moon phase seems to have less of an effect on the fishing.  I've had good days during a full moon period when there was cloud cover the night before.  And I'm a firm believer in fishing immediately before a low-pressure system moves in, regardless of the moon phase.

I've also noticed that on those full-moon periods that sometimes the bite can turn on later in the day, even if the early-morning bite is lame.  I look at it this way: if the fish have been feeding all night with that bright moon, they're not hungry by sunrise.  But as the day wears on and they digest, their appetite comes back by the midday.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.

I enjoy fishing for bass at night with a full moon. The fish just seem to hit top water lures harder at night. Make sure your someplace safe.

Like Clayman I kept a log and noticed a striking difference between the phases. Since I primarily fish lingcod, and only log ocean trips, my experience is admittedly limited to RGC type fish.

Through the log I noticed the bite really shuts down for the week of the full moon. For me a waxing "half moon" or 1st quarter moon through the full moon was almost always an off bite scenario. A new moon was by far the best, but as Clayman points out cloud cover has a strong positive effect on the bite.

This season I plan on taking some night fishing trips during the July/August/Sep full moons to see if they are feeding at night.
