Need advice on stocking a pond!

I helped a friend in VA do this and he called in Fish and Game ...a F&G biologist  showed up and held his hand with everything legal and made great recommendations on the fish and plants ....The F&G part  was free and it ended up being a BASS and crappy honey hole....I do not know if cali F&G  would help.. 

I turned my pool into a koi pond, i love it!  I also put any extra fishing minnows i have in it so i dont have to kill them.

Carnivorous fish make much more waste than scavengers and vegetarians, jut keep this in mind.  Even so, i am slowly learning how to control the summer algae blooms (4 years running)

I have a birdbath that I was having to clean and scrape the algae out of every couple weeks. A friend told me to put a few copper pennies in it and I'd never have the problem again. It worked! I put some pennies in a small goldfish pond I have and don't get any algae there either. When a recent guest suggested that it might be harmful to birds and fish I reminded him that all our water comes through copper pipes. Try tossing some pieces of copper pipes in there and see how well it works. Stick one piece in and watch the algae disappear around it if you want to test it first.

Barley hay in a pond will help. We put barley bags in the horse trough to control algae.
