I am looking to buy a new PA14 for my dad (he's in Oklahoma) and the local kayak shop said they were offering a free Hobie live well if I purchase before March 2nd. Just curious if anyone se has heard of this promo or is the shop trying to push me into purchasing right now? Either way, sounds like a good deal at $2999.

These promotions are always up to the store - from my previous experience the "normal" discount is about 10% off either cash back or with free accessories.  Since the livewell is about $300, that's about right.  the MSRP on the pro-angler is $2999.

If you don't need a new model year (I don't think there were huge changes between '13 and '14 on the PA), most shops will sell the 2013 models for a little less.  One shop I called a few weeks ago said they would sell their 2013 for $2500.

It's all up to the shop. Best bet is to go in and ask. Dealers can't advertise below MAP price and shouldn't even give you a lower price on the phone. Sounds like a good deal if you think you'll use the live well.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll check out Kayak City and see what they can do for me!

I got my PA14 from California Canoe and Kayak off Sunrise Blvd.  They gave me $300 in Hobie accessories.  I think I got the cart/dolly, anchor and anchor trolly and a few extra lure cases.

Personally, I'd go with the NEW Hobie PA Wheelez cart.  I got one and it's the best for rolling on the beach or any rough surface.  I'm able to handle my kayak, loaded down with all my crabbing gear up and over the beach and seaweed.

Are you needing to ship the kayak to Oklahoma though?  PAs cost more to ship because of their weight.  Like $200 or so.  And plus for warranty service you generally are supposed to bring the kayak to the dealer you bought it from.  Any dealer could service it but Hobie definitely says you should bring it to the dealer you purchased from.

If its going to your dad in OK, you should call that dealer to see if they'll sweeten the deal a little, or maybe contact a store in Dallas or something if you want a competing offer.
