Took a friend out that's been bugging me to fish off the yak. Told in the sit inside was a bad idea but he insisted. 5 minutes out he comes and tries to grab my anchor line and flips. Wish I got that part of camera. Thank god for wearing a life jacket. Funny now that everyones ok and no gear was lost...

I love right on the water basically at the mouth on the montezuma with a private launch ramp. Lodi is about 45 mins each way.

Like you said, at least he was wearing a PFD and wasn't alone.  Hope he learned some very valuable lessons.

I did the same thing within 4 seconds on my first trip out too. I learned the limits of the boat and myself real fast.

My first kayak was a Necky, I bought it, went straight to Spring Lake, tipped it 3 times and returned it for a Prowler.

This was back before the great demo days that are available today. I think that is one of the great things about the sport now, businesses that have all these demo days. Try before you buy.
I am still gonna fill my yak with pool noodles someday. It helps I hear.

Depending on how large the opening is on a SINK it's possible to drain them on the water. You flip it upside down and push one end down which lifts the other end up, then you immediately lift that same end as high up as you can get it. You won't drain everything, but you can drain a lot. You need to be a strong swimmer with a life jacket on to do this. We used to do it on Lake Lanier in Georgia with flat water racing kayaks. They were typically longer and had a more narrow opening than a modern plastic SINK though.

I have never unintentionally flipped one.  But it's only a matter of time.

I flipped a 17 foot perception ocaen kayak, there was no getting back into it. Had to swim it to shore.  Went to roll over classes at Clemson and rolled many a white water boat, only once did I ever get over without assistance.  That is harder than it looks.

Glad he's OK.  Hope this incidence didn't scare him off kayaking.

Not at all. Once he was back in he wanted to stay out. Had to convince him the weather got too rough and to go back in. Went out in ocean cove with me last weekend and now that I have two Hobies were going out yoday
