I took mine in Half Moon Bay Kayak Co. I was kayaking in my local lakes already for two years and had been watching a lot of video tutorials. So when I signed up for a safety class, I told them specifically what I needed to work on (self rescue, surf launch and landing, and some pointers like proper paddling technique). I kinda saved money that way since I didn't have to take the whole course. I picked a one on one (private) class. Paid per hour for 3 hours minus my 10% discount.

It's probably more than you want, but just so you know. CCK in HMB has SK1, then SK2 for learning how to sea kayak with a sit inside. After you take those two, then you can take the surfzone class and rockgarden trips etc. I repeated the surfzone class about 5 times 20 years ago.
