Antique Bamboo Fly Rod Question

My father-in-law gave me a bamboo fly rod that was gift to him in the sixties, on cardboard tube it is in says it was from Frank W. Rickard, new Brunswick Canada

My father-in-law is avid fly fishermen and ties his own fly's but never used this rod because Frank Rickard was supposedly a famous rod maker, especially in Europe.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about bamboo fly rods, I see they can be valuable but how do you know?

Take it to the fly fishing show in Pleasanton this weekend.

Go to the classic fly rod forum (www.classicflyrodforum.com) with your history of the rod, and at least half a dozen of the best pictures you can take of the rod.

I can tell you right now, that a search on that forum brings up nothing regarding Rickard rods, but it's quite possible that the rod was made by some other manufacturer. Maybe high end, maybe not... But an examination of good rod pictures is going to shed a lot more light on the topic.

Thanks for the web site info, I took a closer look at rod, reel seat/handle are British. I will give your idea to post a shot, I found out it wasn't a gift my father-in-law paid $600 to have it made, then he would not fish with it because he paid so much, guess it was a lot of money for a rod back then.
