I saw a few threads from you guys that own 5th wheels and travel with kayaks.  Some mentioned hanging kayak on roof and draping it over the hood.  Others put on top of fifth wheel or on back. I am looking for updated info from folks that have tried these methods and I would like to know if there were any issues with any of these methods from those that actually tried them.  Not sure I want it hanging over the front or not and not sure where to tie it to if it is on the roof.  And if it was on the back or ladder I am not sure a longer 13'+ kayak would fit properly.

I know a toy hauler would have been better, but the wife said no and we got what we got.

I have a 5th wheel and me uncle (snapperhead) also has a 5th wheel and we both use the same set up. A thule rack on the truck cab and we installed trailer hitches on the front of our trucks and use the Thule goal post racks. The kayaks go over the hood. Seems to work well.

I can't find the pics of the yaks on my truck with the 5th wheel hooked up. I would never put them on top on the 5th wheel, it is to high and unsafe getting them up/down.

Are those Thule goal post racks sturdy or flimsy.  Should I just have someone make some for me. And do they make the part for on top of truck cab or is that the same as someone would get for car.

I guess as long as the front bar is above my cab it shouldn't mess with view to much except for the part going up from front bumper hitch. How many kayaks will this set up hold.

Does any part of the kayak extend into bed area or is it all from cab forward.

I put one on top of my 5th wheel went to Idaho twice. I can tell you trees are a problem. Last time on way home in my block a tree limb knocked the rack loose. I had to use a 16 ft extension ladder for a ramp, to slide on top of 5th wheel. I really don't like the Idea and am thinking of a rack that goes over the top of the cab over the hood. This from a person who has done that. If I travel local to beach I do two trips now.

The Thule Goal Post works great. I am a welder and decided to buy the goal post instead of making one; mostly because of time and the lack of it for me. I usually put 2 yaks on this set-up. I have seen 4 on J-Hooks, but I will stick with 2.

Just checking in on this post. That is funny as heck; the light house pic. I searched for the 5th wheel pic and must have clicked on that one on accident.

I like this option they are expensive though. I may bite the bullet. But building a trailer to haul yak behind my smaller car for local trips.

I am going to look into a bed extender from some where like Harbor Freight and use it in the front in the vertical position. They are around $75.

How do you load that with your yak by yourself. will the rack in front fold down?
