Went out at Davenport Landing today. We launched into moderate surf at around 11 AM. The swell got huge as the tide came in, at least 7 to 9 feet high on the outside of the break. At one point, I paddled back to check out the beach for a landing trajectory and saw a HUGE wave break across the entire beach: WHUMP!!! Decided to stay outside until the tide came in all the way.

I worked the drift between 40 feet and 70 feet of water. It was a strange combo of huge swells and very little wind, so the drift was slow with a lot of up and down action. Very few fish registered on the fishfinder. I did catch a 14 inch cabezon and a nice copper colored rock bass. Both were a little too small, so it was catch and release time. My friend got dumped a few feet off the beach on the way in, so Neptune has yet another pair of sunglasses to add to his collection!

Yeah, I told my friend about the "lost to the sea" topic on the web site. He had never dumped in the surf before and was a little stunned. I told him it was so common there is a topic dedicated to it. He also dunked his cell phone and ruined it, so he also learned the dry bag lesson the hard way.
