I purchased some used fly gear a while back ....been doing research on line and I`m sure there's a thread here....just wanted opinions on  line weights etc etc....here`s what  I bought :

               Pflueger Medalist 1494 AK

               Lamson  2

Sage 2 piece 9`  GFL 590 RPL Line Wt 5

I assume as I`ve been reading that one of those reels or both takes a 5 weight Line since it`s on the rod ? and I've been told there suited more for  trout ,smallies and Large mouth, crappie. small lake rivers ans streams...

Thanks

Yea that would be a 5wt. If your fishing still water get your self an intermediate camo or clear line, streams and rivers you'll need a floating line. I bought one reel and fly rod, but have 3 spools, 250grain sink tip, floating, and intermediate. Covers me in any situation so far, rivers, lakes and bays. All my lines are Rio but I don't have a lot of experience. Head to your local fly shop and ask questions.

590 RPL is a really great rod, on that rod I'd consider overlining by one, especially if you are a beginner or if you want to do the bobber/split shot thing.

Perfect all around norcal trout rod. Reel doesnt matter much, I prefer going with light reels on 5wts., drag doesnt matter since I rarely put the fish on the reel.

If you ever want to sell the RPL hit me up :)
