I don't want to put my radio in a pocket.   I want to put it on the outside front, up high, so I just need to hit the button to transmit.   I got this new PFD with a square attachment point, and my radio has a knob on the back that I can unscrew.
I'm thinking of unscrewing the knob, then reattaching it through a hole in a short piece of webbing, then running that through the square thing, and using Velcro to join the two ends of the webbing. That way I can remove the radio to recharge it, store it, etc.
I can run a string through the small hole on the radio that is for a hand strap and loop that around the shoulder strap of the pfd to make sure it doesn't get lost.
But you guys probably have better ideas, don't you?   Thanks

The square thing is where I put my knife/sheath. As for the VHF radio, I use a heavy duty retractable string (I forgot the brand, hobie has it also) to tether it with. It has a quick release connection. I also just clip it (VHF) on one of the slim pocket on the outside.

Does it have a Velcro strap above that on the shoulder? That's where I wear mine. I have the same brand different model though.

I clip mine to the strap for the upper buckle. I wish I could come up with a better way though. I am always bumping the key pad with the end of my fishing pole.

I have a Standard Horizon with a remote microphone that doubles as a speaker.  The radio is in a pocket and the mike is clipped to a shoulder strap on the PFD.  I don't know if other radios have this option but it works really well for me.

I just clip mine to the outside of one of my PFD pockets.

I do the same and works fine from this position. I have even tried the radio on my lap and it works fine, arms length and attached to collar. Found that when attached to pocket or collar I don't over modulate and can be heard clearly. Just key and talk normally.

Speaker mike and radio tethered inside a pocket does the job.  However, be careful because a wet speaker mike doesn't transmit or receive clearly.  Shake the water out of it if you submerge it or if you are in heavy rain, then transmit or listen.

I simply use the radios clip and clip my radio to a top pocket on the right side of my PFD, then use the radios leash to clip to a D-ring just in case!

I took a fastex buckle and zip tied the male half to the little button on the back of the radio. I had to put two small ties through the buckle slot making two loops, then one more tie through both loops and around the button. The female half I zip tied high up on the shoulder strap of my pfd.

snugged it all down and it has held up for years. Puts the radio mike right where my mouth is if I turn my head slightly, and I can hear transmissions easier since it is close to my ear. I can unclip the buckle to remove the radio from the PFD.

my Standard Horizon has a clip on it and I use the square PFD location you show in the photo to put the clip thru. It is a very secure mount that way as it has some difficulty getting on n off the square spot on the PFD. Tis way it is near my ear, easily reached and a turn of my head lets me speak right into it.

I use the same method with my Standard Horizon VHF.

i clip to the top pocket on my chinook.  I think you would have one on the other side of the vest.
