OTW about 2:00 pm met Da Bruddah there, he has been asking about perch fishing so I offered to take him to some of the spots I normally fish, wind was up, tide outgoing, 1-2 foot swell. We decided to stay near Ballena Bay.

First fish he caught was a smelt, this explained all the people fishing from shore, they are always there when smelt are around also might be why someone caught a 46" sturgeon there on Thursday??? Not sure sturgeon chase smelt?

We decided to head to the south end of Ballena but to many people along the shore there also, tried over by crab cove but the fish were up near the rocks, again shore fishermen.

Went back where we started, just like clock work as it has been all winter perch started biting before low tide when water wasn't moving much, we each caught a split tail and called it a day, off the water at 5:00.

Somehow the first post got sent before I was finished. Sometimes it's great to paddle around and learn more about a particular fishing area ( bottom topography )
and thanks for sharing your favorite spots.
Sometimes, it's nice to have a quiet, peaceful time out in the ocean with great company.
Thanks, Brian!!!

Next time we will get out to the bigger perch, thanks for the company. Even though it was a little cool and windy good to get on the water, sorry the pictures were a little blurry.

Let us know when you can get out, saw a guy catch a small shark today (although he ran and put it in his car to hide it  :smt013 ), and with the smelt around good sign that the bigger sharks, rays and halibut should be showing up soon.

Maybe Martin will join us too??

Hi Guys (Plan B, Martin and Brian).

Would be great to go out together sometime when it is not so windy and head out to the outer Rockwall area. There seems to always be something big lurking around and Brian mentioned that the perch is much larger farther out.
Keep in touch and let's try to hook-up sometime soon.

Take Care,

Da Bruddah (Michael Y.)
