have you ever checked out the old growth trees scattered about off SKyline around El Corte? supposedly they were just too much of a PITA to get out and so they left 'em

While I agree that past logging practices did harm to our salmon and steelhead, our own Fish & Wildlife is responsible for the latest decline in steelhead.

Going back to the early 1960's I can remember the limit for steelhead was 3 fish/day. Then, people discovered the drift boat. I think it originated in Oregon. They are fish killing machines.

Within a few years, drift boats were covering every square foot of water in our local waters.( Eel, Van Duzen, and Mattole Rivers) I personally know of one guide boat that killed over 200 steelhead a year for several years. There were lots of guide boats and hundreds of sport boats. Do the math.

Not one move by F&G to adjust. They sat by and watched it all happen, until one day fishermen were complaining about no fish. Too late! Now there is catch and release only, and they say they are on the rebound. I sure hope so.

Those loggers back then were total studs.
Swinging an axe or sledge hammer all day long to drop monster trees like those has got to be the ultimate workout.
I was watching and thinking, no wonder OSHA was created.  :smt044

When the music started I thought Donna Reed or the Beave would be introduced! The wife's comments were exactly what the commentator said, "New Homes". She works for a builder.
