Fished Salt Point Saturday 8-26 with my brother.  The drift was pretty fast in the morning, and we were having trouble keeping our bait on the bottom.  Caught and released about 3 rockfish between the two of us in the morning.  I went back out in the afternoon for a little bit and got into some fish.  The wind had died down and the water was almost like glass out there. I lost a nice fish right before he came into my view, got broken off by something else, then ended up coming home with a decent olive and a 29 inch ling.  I was able to waypoint some hotspots on my GPS and come right back and hit them again.  Man, I'm loving having the GPS out there!

Oh btw, I have been suprised how friendly the rangers seem at Salt Point.  The ranger there was helping an older guy carry his boat motor and his gear up and he drove it up in the ranger truck for him, then he was helping one of the fishermen fillet up a fish.  Every time I have been here the rangers have been very cool, and have never harassed us. Gotta love that.

Right on!  Good report.  It's always nice when the ranger/warden/authority figure around helps to promote the good vibe of what we're doing out there.   :smt001

Yea, thats how I felt,  Like the Ranger was there supporting the fishermen, not trying to keep them down.  I wish there were more of them like that.

Sounds like a great spot. Having friendly locals is a huge plus! Where's it located?

That is a good spot.  I especially like the fish cleaning table they have in the parking lot.  We have a group of friends who camp there every year and abalone dive.  I usually fish.  I understand that there are some pinnacles outside the cove.  To date I have not found them but, now that I have a FF I plan to.  I have seen some nice lings pulled out of there.  I'll be up ther in October.

Salt point continues out under the water.  There are pinnacles everywhere off the point and just to the north of it.  I also found some good spots loaded with fish straight out of gerstle cove in deeper water 100-140 feet.  I am trying to get up to salt point every other weekend so if anyone wants to hook up let me know.  I would like to try some ab diving around salt point but I need someone to dive with.

Our group will be there October 21 and 22.  If you are around at that time, I would love to fish with you and I am sure my friends would be happy to take you out diving with them.

Nice work, Travis!

Throw a post up on the Hook-ups board and I'll try to meet you up there sometime.
