My wife wants to use a crab snare from the beach at Crabfest. Does anyone have ideas on a good cheap rod holder? Thanks

2 foot piece of PVC pipe (that fits rod handle) from the hardware store.  Cut one end bologna style slice to create a point.

I made mine from a piece 1/2"×1/2" angle iron 4ft long, and 2" pvc about 14".
The top bolt you put on the inside of the pvc, and the bottom you run from the out side so the rod butt hits it. I have had mine for about 20 yrs.

In a younger day, I made a couple entirely out of construction slash. Short piece of 2" PVC pipe, 3' section of rebar and a hoseclamp. No idea what Happened to them

For firm sand, dirt, or gravel:
Get a construction form stake from Home Depot or hardware store, then bolt or radiator clamp a 12 to 16" length of PVC or ABS pipe to it.  you can leave a bit of the top of the stake showing, so you can hit it with a hammer or whatever.
For softer sand:
Cut a 3 or 4 foot length of PVC pipe at a sharp diagonal angle to make a point.

+1. But use the Aluminum angle instead of iron to prevent rust and its lighter. I also use the larger 1"X1" size (I think thats the size)
