Nonetheless, the best loaf I baked came from a you tube on ny no knead bread in a dutch oven.

That works great.  I have done that too.  Turns out awesome!  I need to find the link we use with directions.  Turns out bakery gorgeous and tastes even better.  The crust is heavenly.

Tote:  I'm always happy to be a contributor to new activities.  I see a starter swap coming to an NCKA event sometime soon.  What could be better than fishing, brewing and  sourdough bread baking?  Everything is better when it's based on a "Live Culture"!

I made sourdough for years when I was in Budapest (couldn't buy it there).  I ordered a starter from the US, and used Jamie Oliver bread/ Pizza crust recipes as it was the only cookbook I could find in English that had bread recipes.  Turned out pretty good.

The dutch oven sounds like a great idea.

The first time Linda tasted sourdough she threw the loaf in the garbage cuz she thought it had turned  :smt044

I've tried making sourdough starter about 5 times now. I usually get a good starter going but just forget to keep feeding it and always end up tossing it.

My sourdough bread has the right taste, but it usually ends up being brick-like. I will most likely take some bread making courses in the future though. Cannot be defeated by the sourdough!

For any of those interested in making some nice bread at home check out Mark Bittman's no knead bread recipe. It's very simple and foolproof.

Didn't realize you guys mentioned the no knead bread. I agree it turns out bakery gorgeous. Definitely the recipe to fool people into thinking you're a pro baker haha
