So today (Tuesday) I ordered my Thule rack for my car, (awesome!) and it should be here in about a week or two, issue is I have Thursday off and I want to go fishing. I was thinking "why not just use pool noodles on top of my car to transport the kayak". Only issue is where the heck do I find pool noodles on such short notice in the winter?
Any suggestions?

from experience.....  don't transport your boat this way.  I have had boats get loose and seen boats leave cars this way.
If you insist, try asking at sport chalet or another of those type stores if there is anything in back.

I transport my cuda upside down on the crossbars, without any pool noodles.

I think he was asking about using pool noodles without cross bars, just the noodle between the boat and the roof...

Get the Malone car carrier kit from dan. I think it's about $30. Comes with all straps and foam blocks to mount your kayak strait to your roof. Then after you get your rack the foam blocks fit the cross bars and you can use the straps

+1, this is the way to go. I have used the foam block a number of times now on my bars, so you can always use them again when you get a rack.

you can use pipe insulation instead of pool noodles so that it is specific to the diameter you need. thats what i did with my truck rack and never had an issue with kayaks coming lose. you just got to tie it down tight and trust your knots. the pipe insulation actually spins as you load and unload making it even more ideal.

I use the large pool noodles slipped over pvc pipe for the rear one so it will roll the yak up  and wrapped them with plumbers tape. A roll of the tape cost $12. Works great. I got mine at Dollar tree or one of the discount general stores. Dont know about off season, maybe a pool supply store.
